Parish Lane: A Really Joyous Tune

Right now we just need some pockets of joy.

I could talk about how frustrated, scared and mad I am at what is happening in the world right now. But that's not going to help be present for my family and friends. It's not going to help me make good art. It's not going to help me feel less exhausted and worried.

So here are some pockets of joy we're having right now. Hopefully they help! Scroll down to the end if you just want to see the video without the pre-ample ;-)

POCKETS OF JOY

  • Visiting my parents on the farm, drinking heaps of cups of tea, checking out Mum's latest quilts (she's amazing!) and getting them to introduce me to all of their assorted poultry:

    • There's "Uncle Pugly" the guinea fowl who hangs out with the chooks because he can't find a female guinea fowl to hang out with.

    • There's the "Wild Mother" who escaped and had 12 secret chickens in a forgotten corner of the yard.

    • "Queenie" who is the runt with the injuries who gives the best snuggles.

    • There's "Zena" the chook with the bung toes who goosesteps all over the yard

  • Lach's reading David Sedaris' 'Theft by Finding' on my Nana's old chaise lounge

  • Watching Hilde the dog make friends with the farm dogs while they work out who gets the coveted back of the ute position (a.k.a "Dog Valhalla")

  • Watching classic films. Just saw 'Double Indeminity' for the first time (so good!). I also love Some Like it Hot, How to Marry a Millionaire and Calamity Jane.

  • Swimming in river spots, or the beach. Honestly, anywhere there is outside space and water.

  • Filming new videos for new tunes.

Our latest video Parish Lane was written by Lach and reminded folks on our Facebook page of rapids and rivers so we named it after Lach's family's favourite swimming spot 'Parish Lane' just under a bridge between Corryong and Cudgewa. It's musical ingredients include an odd time signature 7/8 (which makes you want to dance) and a canon.
